God can be seen all around you. But not just in a beautiful sunset, or a scenic view. God can also be found in the small things. But if you’re not looking for them… you might miss Him trying to speak to you. When my fiancé and I recently ordered our invitations, we thought we made a huge mistake. It all started when they arrived…. We ordered 300 and a week later, three boxes were delivered. But when we opened the first one and started getting to work, we were immediately scared we had vastly over ordered. |
But we pressed on. I worked through my half of the guest list, but even as I neared the end, it seemed like I was barely making a dent in the first box! And there were still two more to go!
To make matters worse, when Tim got to the end of his list, there were STILL nearly 100 envelopes still left in our first box of invitations. We joked that the other two boxes must be nearly empty… but when we finally got curious enough to sneak a peak, that couldn’t be further from the truth.
Both of the other boxes were completely full!
Turns out, instead of shipping us the original order of 300… the company we bought from accidentally sent us triple our order! That’s three boxes of three hundred… A total of 900 invitations!
After we got over our initial shock, and double checked that we weren’t charged for the mix up, we couldn’t help but laugh at the goof up. But when I went to lay down that night, I felt something pressing on my heart.
It’s no secret weddings can get expensive. And invitations can be a large part of the overall price tag. Tim and I have spent many nights over the past few months crunching the numbers, trying to figure out how to make it all work. And even though it doesn’t always make sense, somehow it has all come together.
One of my favorite verses is Matthew 6:26. Jesus says "Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?"
While some may see what happened to us as purely an accident, I think it was something else. I think it was God reminding us, that He is a God of provision. That all things are possible, if we choose to have faith, not worry and simply trust in Him.
In Philippians 4:19, we’re told ” God will supply every need.. according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus.”
Even where I come up short, God is always there to fill in the gaps. And He wants to do the same for you! But often times we miss these little reminders of God’s love because we’re too busy searching for the BIG miracles.
We’re looking for the parting of the waters, or the miraculous healing. Don’t get me wrong, those things happen, because we serve an amazing God. But sometimes, that same almighty powerful God, chooses to speak in a whisper. And if you’re not looking closely, you might miss it!
I needed to be reminded that God is in control. That I don’t have to worry about finances or planning, as long as I keep His plan at the center of everything.
Because God is ready to provide whatever you need, and not just enough to get by… God wants to bless you beyond what you can even imagine! He wants to lavish His love on you in a BIG way and the evidence of that can probably be seen in your everyday life… if only you’re willing to see it.
And to think… it only took a few HUNDRED extra invitations to remind me of that simple truth!
Now the only trick is… what to do with the spares? :)
